Every time we ride a taxi, whether we’re going to work, coming home after a late night with friends, or in a hurry trying to catch a flight, we are entitled to some rights as a passenger. However, many of us are unknown about the rights itself. So, let’s find out what these rights are:
A Reliable Driver
The taxi that you hire should be driven by a driver who has the current accreditation and a valid driving license. A taxi driver must obey all the traffic rules. As they are responsible for the safety of everyone inside the taxi.
Safe and Comfortable Vehicle
Any taxicab that you hire, whether through a dispatcher or off the streets, it is a must that it should be safe as well as comfortable. The insides of a taxi cab that you get into should be clean, and the cab itself should be in a good state of repair. If you feel like the taxi that you hired is not in a proper condition, you can simply refuse to use their service. Don’t risk getting in an accident or catching some disease because of a single cab ride.
Select the Route
You’re the one who will be paying the cab fare. So, since you pay the fare, you choose the route, simple as that. You are not obliged to go through the same route that the driver chooses. You can choose the route that suits you the best. You are entitled to give him directions and order him to take you to your destination as per your instructions.
Air Conditioning
Taxis are required to have a properly working air conditioner fitted. A passenger has the right to turn on or off, according to his/her preference. However, you should keep this in mind that taxi drivers are not expected to meet unreasonable requests. Requests that may impair their ability to provide a safe ride, like setting the air conditioner to such levels which may cause discomfort.
Refuse Multiple Hiring
Passengers who have hired the taxi are entitled to exclusive use of the cab for the course of the trip. Drivers or taxi service providers should not serve multiple parties or passengers against their will. It is you who has the sole right to keep that space for yourself. You’re the only one who is entitled to the full use of the space till you reach your destination, and ensure the full utilization of the payment that you’ve made.
Access to the Meter
No one can stop you from viewing how the meter is running through out your journey. The meter should always be started from the correct tariff, and also you should be able to keep an eye on the meter throughout your journey if you want to. That will help you make sure that you are not deceived and you get to pay the fair amount of fare.
